Artists in the Boro are inspired to explore and share the powerful elements that shadow and its interplay with light can bring to 2-dimensional images. Intrigued by the greater sense of depth, substance and 3-dimensionality the use of shadow can create, they feel that depictions of this interplay can significantly enhance the mood of an image and heighten its overall sense of atmosphere and evocation of place. This exploration is the central theme of the exhibit, entitled Worlds of Light & Shadow.

Artists in the Boro was formed in January of 2011, guided by the mandate that it is a group inclusive of all visual art media, which endeavours—through meetings, workshops, public events and other forums—to discover, promote and celebrate the talents of artists residing, working or otherwise affiliated with the unique riverside community of Queensborough in New Westminster, BC.

AB artists create in various visual media—painting, drawing, photography, textiles, jewelry, and more—with members striving to celebrate originality and learn from one another in an inspiring and supportive environment.

Either as a group or as individual artists, AB members have previously exhibited work on the New Westminster Cultural Crawl and at numerous Lower Mainland venues, including:

  • Anvil Centre
  • New Westminster Public Library
  • ‘Art in the Atrium’ Gallery at the QCC Hub
  • Fraser River Discovery Centre
  • Kay Meek Centre, West Vancouver
  • CityScape Community Art Space, North Vancouver
  • Gallery 1515
  • The Gallery at Queen’s Park
  • 100 Braid Street Studios
