Profile
Daphne is 2nd generation settler to Chinese immigrant parents from Guangdong, China. Advocating for fibre understanding and slow ways, Daphne works with natural dyes & materials as metaphor to spark awareness, remembrance, and conversation. These days call for authentic storytelling, communication, and identity reclamation within interconnected systems. Thus, she further explores how this shows up in her choice of media beyond textiles.
Currently enrolled in a Biomedical Visualization & Communication program, Daphne seeks to expand her knowledge of physiological existence and has been observing parallels between these studies and her experiences within the apparel industry and as a natural dye textile artist and educator. Prior experience includes working for international sportswear brands and onsite travel, after graduating in 1995 from Fashion Design & Technology.
Living in The Netherlands for a decade adds an important element in shaping her identity, before returning to the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking peoples.
